"My Family Loves Me" -- artist, Anderson Brown

Home. German philosopher Johann Goethe said, "He is happiest, be he king or peasant, who finds peace in his home."

Who doesn't want a happy, peaceful home? So, in this place called home, there should be nothing hurtful, harmful, or in any way detrimental to those who abide there. It should be a haven -- safe and strong -- from anything called domestic violence in a happy, peaceful home. Domestic violence is an oxymoron. Think about it. Domestic has reference to home and family -- all things tender. Violence is defined as abusive or unjust exercise of power causing injury or harm. These two words should never find themselves in the same sentence, let alone as a societal term referring to a widespread social problem.

Home, as we have been told, is where the heart is. We should never feel threatened, unsafe, or in peril in that place where our heart is. Domestic violence should never be. But, there are those who would control, abuse, and manipulate others for their own selfish pleasure and personal gain, even in the home. As much as we try to find for ourselves and created for our children a home with a feeling that they are loved and cherished, we and they just might meet -- along life's journey -- one who hasn't been raised this same way for one reason or another. It surely happens. There are those who feign goodness while underneath it all, they are not.

>sigh<

Home, by all of the best definitions, is that place that there is no place like it. It is that place where we thrive, abide, and reside in love and safety. We should never be harmed there. It is where we live, not worrying about being hurt ... or even dying, It is where we live.
