Why "Bigger Than Me"? Why The Telling?

In my introduction, I gave myself the title of author and advocate. I have written a book that advocates for women that have been abused in relationships with men that they have loved.

Over my years of advocating for women who have been abused, I have collected stories and these stories are a critical component of helping women who are abused to have the courage to step away. It's the telling of the stories that makes the difference. When someone tells a story, there might be one or more people listening. The most important listener is the one who is telling the story. As a woman tells her own heart-wrenching story of horrific abuse and unspeakable harm, she hears herself tell these things that she hasn't before been safe enough to tell. It's the telling.

The telling of unbelievable hurt and abuse makes it audibly real and perceptively clear. Telling the story helps the reality of the words sink immeasurably deep and can aid in the healing and powerful stepping away and into a place of safety.

Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Program

"Bigger Than Me: The Telling" is a collection of stories that have been prepared for visual performance as an awareness piece for crisis shelters and university women's centers to show or to perform. It is a collection of stories that have been shortened from a book that I wrote titled, "Bigger Than Me." Both of these are available on Amazon.
